Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo are a couple working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as professors of economics. Banerjee serves as the honorary adviser of the World Bank and the Indian government. Duflo was awarded the 2010 John Bates Clark Medal. Together they co-founded and guided the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) in 2003, and shared the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Michael Kramer for their experimental practices and contributions to global poverty alleviation.
