John Medina is a professor at the University of Washington. He is the director of the Brain Center for Applied Learning Research at Seattle Pacific University and a consultant to the Education Commission of the States. Medina is also a developmental molecular biologist focused on researching the genes involved in human brain development as well as the problems associated with the genetics of psychiatric disorders. He has been awarded the Outstanding Faculty of the Year at the College of Engineering at the University of Washington. In addition, he is a bestselling science writer and the author of several books.
