The book was jointly written by Mark Williams and Denny Penman. Mark Williams is a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Oxford and is founder of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre. As a pioneer and promoter in the field of mindfulness, he takes part in developing mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. Experiments have shown that the therapy can greatly reduce the recurrence risk of severe depression. Danny Penman, PhD in biochemistry, used to work for The Independent and the BBC, and is now a columnist and commentator for the Daily Mail. He and Williams co-wrote this book.
