L. David Marquet was recognized as its most outstanding and exceptional submarine commander in Squadron Seven. He currently teaches at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies. During his time as a commander of Santa Fe, he successfully managed to subvert the US Navy’s traditional leader-follower approach, providing the crew with far greater responsibilities and a much higher level of decision-making authority. Under his lead, Santa Fe’s performance improved dramatically winning numerous decorated awards.
